When Bhagi contacted us from Newyork for his wedding and told us their story, our immediate reaction was, yes we are game. This was for the first time when Photographians got to cover a Hindu – Jewish wedding, and it wasn’t any less than a dream project where beautiful cultural traditions and ceremonies, the kaleidoscope of colorful outfits and the contagious, tireless energy kept us on our feet for 3 consecutive days.
Let’s first shed some light on how these two wonderful souls met from across borders… A couple of years ago, Staci came to India for a project work and stumbled upon Bhagi at a pub in Hyderabad. From being strangers to becoming friends, they traveled a lot within the country – before they finally realized each other’s worth in their respective lives. And one fine morning, Staci called her father and said, “Guess what? I met with my husband over here”.
Being endowed with the responsibility of photographing this grand wedding conjured up a swirling concoction of nerves, excitement, and joy for Sagar, Tuhin, Newton, Argha, Rijuman. It was an experience to witness how two diversified culture got mingled with each other. There were guests from all over the world, who gather at the beautiful beachside hotel, The Golden Palace (Puri, Odisha), to celebrate the union of two families. It was wonderful to see how everyone mostly interacted through emotions, as Bhagi’s family barely spoke English.
As always, our nerves shook with self-imposed pressure, expectations, and fear… all of which eventually evaporated away pretty quickly. We soon realized that Bhagi and Staci (and their friends and family) are some of the most welcoming and down-to-Earth people in the world. Our nervousness gave way to curiosity and fascination. Photographians got the opportunity to cover a beautifully unapologetic celebration of life, love, and friendship.
Bhagi and Staci were always full of energy – be it on the beaches or in the hotel lobby. And we were drawn into that energy which appeared like a gravitational pull and we couldn’t cease to play with our cameras (which may be one of the reasons why we could actually gather over 12,000 frames throughout the 3-days’ event!).
Thank You, Bhagi and Staci.
It was an absolute honor to be a part of your wedding and getting a chance to treasure all the little moments of madness, emotions, rituals and love.
